About

Ashley Christensen is a lighting designer originally from Portland, OR. She holds a B.A in Theatre from the University of Oregon and a M.F.A in Lighting Design from Indiana University Bloomington. As a lighting designer as well as a sound designer and musician, her design work strives to combine each of her backgrounds in order to find the richness where the three intersect. This pushes her to find innovative ways to communicate through light, helping her to find the beats in a moment onstage, the musicality in a transition, and strengthen her collaboration with the sound or score of a work. With her main mediums falling into the intangible, she enjoys challenging herself to find a multitude of ways to visually represent the role she sees light taking in a production to best communicate with her fellow designers. From utilizing tools like a physical light lab to digital previsualization, making the intangible tangible helps facilitate the creation of a shared language inside a production team and lets lighting play a key role in shaping the conversation. In her free time she enjoys baking, reading, and playing harp. She is the recipient of the 2026 Gilbert Hemsley Internship and the 2026 Barbizon Lighting Company Johnathan Resnick Lighting Design Award.
